You must use your own Ocean State Libraries card (OSL) when checking out library materials at the Harmony
Library. If you should forget your card, you may use a family member's card ONLY if you have no overdue fines on your card, the family member is present, and there are no overdue fines on his/her card.
Library materials may be returned to the Harmony Library Circulation Desk during normal operating hours or
put into the book drop after hours. Harmony Library materials may also be returned to other OSL libraries, but
it is preferred that audiovisual materials (videos, DVDs, books on CD/tape, and CDs) be returned to the Harmony Library.
The Harmony Library, as a member of Ocean State Libraries, observes the following loan policies:
LOAN PERIODS
- Overnight loans: reference materials with librarian approval
- Seven-day loans: entertainment videos & DVD's, magazines
- Three-week loans: educational videos & DVD's, adult and children books, cassettes, books on tape, puzzles, and games
- One day loan passes for Audubon Environmental Education Center and Mystic Aquarium
RENEWALS
- Books on HOLD by another patron may not be renewed.
- Magazines, CDs/cassettes, and DVDs/Videos may not be renewed.
- Interlibrary loan materials may be renewed once if system allows renewal.
- Three-week loan materials may be renewed once.
- Books on summer reading lists may not be renewed.
- Materials may be renewed online through your patron record via the library catalog link at www.harmonylibrary.org
FINES
- Three week loan materials are fined $.10 per library day. One week loan magazines and holiday CDs are also fined $.10 per library
day. A maximum fine of $3.00 is charged per item.
- Each overdue DVD, video, and/or overnight loan is fined $2 per library day.
- Overdue fines vary for admission passes.
- The OSL system computes your overdue fines and keeps a record of them until paid. If you have an overdue balance of $5.00+,
borrowing privileges will be denied until the fine is paid or brought below $5.00.
- A maximum "grace" fine of $10 per family (includes all cardholders) will be charged for overdue materials. Each family is allowed
three "grace" fines per year. A maximum fine of $20 will be charged thereafter.
Please Note: A minor's card is LINKED to the guardian card making viewable the status of all borrowed materials. A cardholder
with outstanding fines on overdue materials may not use a family member's card until the fines are paid.
- Patrons will be charged the cost of replacing lost or damaged materials.
LOST CARD REPLACEMENT FEE
- To replace a lost OSL card, $1 and address verification is required.
